The Role of CFD in New Product Development
SYNOPSIS
A new device must be designed, engineered, prototyped, and tested. This cycle repeats continuously until the product completely functions as intended.
When Zentech’s client urgently needed to bring a new, patent pending valve design to market, there was no time to waste. The valve contained numerous extremely small openings and sensitive tolerances that needed to be optimized to ensure it would work as intended. Through a partnership with Resolved Analysis, the use of simulation was able to disrupt the traditional NPD cycle. By utilizing CFD, the entire domain of the valve could be visualized, and the pressure profiles and forces could be tracked across every surface within the valve. Changes to valve component positions, sizes and even material properties could be quickly and easily tested using computational fluid dynamics, providing a tremendous time savings compared to iterative testing in a physical prototype.
